Pregnancy Plan - Ingredients and Their Benefits:
B Vitamins - assist with the regulation of hormonal activity and support female hormonal health generally. Easily depleted through stress, alcohol or smoking.
Biotin - important for the maintenance of cellular energy and the normal function of the nervous system. The concentration of biotin in breast milk is 15 times higher than in the mother's blood, which may suggest a link between Biotin and a baby's growth and development.
Beta Carotene - A good maternal store helps protect against cell mutation following conception. Safe form of delivery of extra Vitamin A.
Vitamin C - an important antioxidant which assists in protecting the mother's DNA from oxidative damage. Also critical for the normal function of a mother's immune system. Helps with absorption of Iron.
Vitamin D - critical for normal cell division and the proper absorption and utilisation of Calcium and Phosphorus
Calcium - helps to maintain normal muscle function and neurotransmission. Also assists in maintaining a healthy digestion. The foetus accumulates Calcium rapidly during the 1st Trimester of pregnancy and a mother needs to build up a good store so that plenty is available for her baby without depletion of her own bone material. Vegetarian and vegan mothers and those under 18 need to be especially careful to avoid deficiency.
Chromium - necessary for regulating blood sugar levels. Stimulates synthesis of protein in growing baby's tissues. Recommended total intake of 30mcg per day during pregnancy.
CoEnzymeQ10 - associated with energy levels in cells and promotes blood flow.
Vitamin E - another important antioxidant.
Folic Acid - known to help prevent spina bifida. Works together with Vitamin B12 to ensure healthy cell-division and normal tissue growth during pregnancy.
Iodine - an essential micro-nutrient in the human diet, most particularly as a component of thyroid hormones, which play a vital role in the regulation of metabolic processes such as growth and energy expenditure.
Iron - important for the normal formation of red blood cells and haemoglobin, normal oxygen transport and the proper functioning of the immune system. Also contributes to cognitive function and healthy cell division.
Lycopene and Lutein - Bio-flavanoids. Important for cell growth.
Magnesium - Important for the synthesis of proteins and maintenance of a healthy maternal metabolism.
Selenium - Antioxidant that helps to protect maternal DNA, as well as proteins and lipids from oxidative damage. Also important for the the normal functioning of the immune and thyroid systems.
