Alpha Lipoic Acid is a vitamin - like antioxidant which is produced naturally in the body. Outside the body it is found in leaves of plants containing mitochondria and non-photosynthetic plant tissues, such as potatoes and carrots. Red meat is also a very rich source of Alpha-Lipoic Acid.

Under normal conditions, alpha-lipoic acid functions as a co-factor for a number of vital enzymes responsible for metabolism of our food to energy.

Insufficiencies of alpha-lipoic acid have been shown to be present in individuals who suffer from diabetes, fatigue, heart disease, arthritis and asthma.

Taking one tablets of Bio-Lipoic (equivalent to 50 mg) per day is recommended for general well-being and 2-3 tablets (equivalent to 100 to 150 mg) per day have been shown to give a therapeutic effect.
